With the support of the German embassy and the Ladies International Social Club of Abuja (LISCOA), LDF organised a luncheon for women in support of the ‘Girls Empowerment’ program.
The ‘Girls Empowerment’ program is a fashion-training program providing 15 girls and 3 boys between the ages of 16-18 with the knowledge and skill set to learn to sew and design clothes for a period of three months. The program’s aim is to enable and empower women to be industrious and independent members of their community.
Sewing machines and related equipment were provided to all students during the training and to keep for their future business.
In addition to the training, we started the construction of a “Fashion House”, a creative workshop that will allow young girls to continue to produce fashion items and to be able to sell the fruit of their work.
Unfortunately, due to technical and logistic issues, we had to stop the construction for a few months. We are now getting ready to finalize the project and inaugurate it.
